I was absolutely fascinated by this book. Memoirs aren’t usually my first choice, I much prefer to get lost in fiction, but this book will stay with me for a long time. It’s very deserving of the many titles I’ve seen it winning, including being named @chaptersindigo book of the year and @goodreads Best memoir of the year. It tells the story of Tara who grew up in a devout Mormon family in Idaho where she didn’t attend school, and what happens over the years to lead to her earning her doctorate from Cambridge. At times the book is distressing to read, and even more so when you remember that this isn’t fiction, this was Tara’s life. I am so glad I stepped out of my usual reading comfort zone to pick this one up, a truly fascinating read and what a brave lady to tell her story.

Sister, sister, oh so fair, why is their blood all over your hair? Summary: Korede had a problem. Her younger sister Ayoola is the favorite child, beautiful, and a sociopath. Ayoola, had just killed her third boyfriend making her a serial killer. She is used to cleaning up her sisters messes, literally. She knows how to use bleach to clean blood and her car trunk is big enough to hid a body. Korede also has a crush on a handsome doctor where she works as a nurse. But when he asks for Ayoolas phone number she must confront what she has become. I liked the concept of this book. The first few pages, where the sisters are trying to dispose of the boyfriends body, really drew me in. The sibling rivalry theme was relatable, though at times Korede seemed more like the mother figure than an older sister. I also enjoyed learning about the Nigerian culture throughout the book. But one of the main points I was able to take away was how, in every culture, beauty has a double standard. Korede describes herself as tall and plain looking, Ayoola is smaller and much more beautiful. It is evident how looks played a part in how each sister were precieved through those they interacted with.Ayoola played the manipulative femme fatale to a tee, leading her to get away with murder. Overall I really liked this book. It was a quick read and kept me guessing to the end. #bookreview #biblophile #bookstagram #booklover #mysistertheserialkiller

Ive always wanted to read this one, but I didnt expect it to be like this.

I thought I was going to read a much humorous account of Judy Abbott, very light and intended for younger audience, thoughts courtesy of watching the cartoon a VERY long time ago.

But even though Judys accounts in her letters to her benefactor are somewhat funny and entertaining, there is a message hidden, and loneliness underneath the jolly talk, and maturing into an independent woman.

Most of us know the story of orphan Judy Abbott who found herself in the interest of a mysterious benefactor who sends her to college, and therefore the world, in exchange for letters on her progress.

The book is written in the format of said letters, where Judys voice and character develope and mature.

We notice a difference in her writing from the wide eyed innocence of someone experiencing everything for the first time, but who shows so much hate and resentment towards her previous life in the asylum, to a young women determined to find a place, who can talk politics and makes her own mind and repels against being told what to do.

But the letter format meant we only see things through Judys eyes, which meant not a lot of character development for all others.

Which brings me to Jervies character, I wasnt very much impressed by his behaviour or responses, of course I knew who he was beforehand.

The ending seemed a bit rushed and unsatisfying, where you dont get to feel all the right emotions.

Yet I was left with a smile on my face.

This was a buddy read with my lovely ladies ❀

1984 by George Orwell

I think 1984 should be read periodically if for no other reason than to take note of all the ways people are influenced by the media.

My biggest takeaway from the book is that the most effective tool of mind control is an incessant exposure to the message. It is everywhere all the time.

As technology continues to progress and as languages devolve into emojis and memes, one cant help but wonder how Orwell saw the dangers from his vantage point in 1944.

I always find 1984 as a warning sign. A warning against being swept away. A warning to examine everything, everywhere and all the time. Lest we all devolve emotionally to the following quote: Today there were fear, hatred, and pain, but no dignity of emotion, no deep or complex sorrows. #book99

Finished this poetry book all about cats tonight. Im not a massive poetry fan but when I saw this adorable book I just had to get it, plus I love cats a lot. The poems were okay but as I mentioned I dont read poetry often. My two favourites are Tame cats by Ezra Pound and a poem by Eliot Weinberger which doesnt have a name apprently 🐈😺

REVIEW ⭐⭐⭐⭐
So I finished reading Autumn last weekend, but Ive had to give myself a bit of time to process it. Even though its a short read, it is certainly not light or that easily accessible.

I quite regret not finishing this book in one day because it probably would have been even more memorable that way. To me this is the perfect finish it in one sitting kind of book: it is like stepping into a stream and getting dragged on by the currents. Its best not to fight it or to think too much about where its taking you, just enjoy the flow.

On the surface, this book is about Daniel and Elisabeths friendship. It is quite an unconventional connection, as there is a 70 year age difference between the two. But Autumn is about many other things, too: Brexit, memories, the tragic life of Pauline Boty, bureaucracy and the difficulties women face.

It is probably the most current book Ive ever read as it takes place in 2016, right after Brexit. Im sure some of the British political references were lost on me, but that didnt take away anything from my enjoyment.

It is difficult though to pinpoint what exactly I enjoyed the most about this book. I really liked it, but its very hard to grasp the specifics. I definitely loved the dialogs between Daniel and Elisabeth, as so many others mentioned it before me, they are the highlights of the whole book. I also really like the quality of Ali Smiths writing. The words meditative and contemplative come to my mind, when I try to describe her style and that is something that I highly value in literature.

Im certainly looking forward to read more Ali Smith as this introduction to her work made me quite intrigued.

Which one is your favorite Ali Smith? What do you enjoy about her books?

The crux of the novel is mouthed by the alchemist himself – “When you want something, the whole universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”. -

I dont agree with everything the book showcases, but I do believe in the power of positivity and not giving up.
A story about following your dreams, this book is an easy read and should be read with an open mind.

Sunday Confessions: I bought @jane_mount’s Bibliophile as a Christmas gift, but now I’m obsessed and keeping it for myself! πŸ™ˆ
.
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue would be right at home in this stack featuring books filled with journeys and adventures. I loved this book! I would never have picked it up if it hadn’t been for a serendipitous invitation to an author talk being held at my local university last week. A friend from college who’s as obsessed with books as I am asked me to come with her to hear @themackenzilee speak. I had seen this book around, but I honestly had no idea what it was about until I started reading the back cover while waiting for the event to start. As I read, my jaw dropped. A British trio adventuring across Europe on The Grand Tour in the 1700’s? Eerily similar to my own still-just-a-tiny-inkling-of-an-idea-for-a-someday-novel! After reading the book and talking to the author (who was a total JOY to listen to, by the way! So relatable and hilarious!), I’m feeling more inspired than ever to pick up that pen. I think I still have my own story to tell. Anyway, on to the review:
.
Henry Montague, the heir to his demanding father’s estate, is sent on a last hurrah of a trip across The Continent before he will be forced to set his roguish ways behind him. However, his journey with his best friend (and secret crush) Percy and his sister Felicity goes horribly awry along the way. Pursued at every turn, the three friends find themselves embroiled in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse through the great cities of Europe. I loved this exciting romp of a story! It combined high adventure with plenty of humor and heart along the way. I will definitely be checking out the sequel ASAP!

So, this book needs to be made into a movie...like, now. 🎬 Ill be honest, I didnt like it to begin with. In fact, for the first few chapters I was SO disappointed. It seemed too cliché and repetitive with over-the-top, try-too-hard descriptions, and I found Laurie annoying. I was, to be blunt, bored and unimpressed. HOWEVER, it got better. It got lots better, actually. I started to care more for the characters and became invested in their stories. The plot was well thought-out, in my opinion, and it was funny and cringe-worthy and heart-wrenching all at the same time - just like a cheesy, feel-good rom-com. For that reason, I ended up not being able to put it down! Its not a book that will stay with me, its nothing ground-breaking, but it was enjoyable and heart-warming... and would make a GREAT movie. .

...being honest, calibrating yourself to whether or not the woman is showing interest in you and how to detect it....read it and if you follow the very simple steps he lays out, you will have memorable experiences that will change the way you see and feel about women and will most likely have a life long effect on the women you encounter. I think it is sick how twisted young men have become in recent times due to their lack of understanding of women.
They dont think like men, and they sure as hell arent helpless maidens waiting to be rescued or pandered to.
If a male is conflicted about how to treat women, or has an unsatisfactory sex life, he is not going to reach his full potential due to frustration.
I have no shame about sharing my ideas about sex, seduction, and how to make your time in the dating scene as enjoyable as possible because after my views were corrected, I was able to figure out who I was...unleash myself if you will.
Check out my books! Ladies...buy them for the men in your life! Youll all end up happier!

. . . . . #book #bookstagram #Argentina #evaperon #bookphotography #bookwarm #booksaddict #bookster #reading #french #litterature #passionbook #bookshelves #goodreads #passion #light #bookreview #autumn

Loved it!! I am so thankful to Prime Reading because its lead me to new authors that I will now follow!
Coming Up Roses was a sweet, southern, small town romance that I honestly enjoyed from beginning to end. Cash and Myla had been dealt crappy hands when it came to romance (among other things), but as always, life had an amazing way of working out.
A very bad breakup brought Cash back into town where he got introduced to Myla, and from the moment they met, they couldnt deny their attraction, their connection.
Myla found herself pregnant and single but she didnt let that stop her. She owned a business with her best friend and was actually well loved by her friends. Her baby daddy, however, wasnt about to let her live a happy life that easily, though, which led to some drama. Seeing Cash defend and protect Myla and her unborn baby was SWOONY AF. Love a man that stands up for whats his .
All in all, this was a great book I definitely recommend if you are in the mood for a small town romance with a swoon-worthy hero!

Not really much of a book reader but I found this book in the hotel library on a recent holiday. I took it back to my room and hoped to read a few pages before going to bed. But what I didn’t realise was those few pages led to 3 hours of reading!

The whole night I thought about what happens next and couldn’t wait to continue reading it. Where I should have been enjoying the hotel entertainment every evening I just wanted to go back to my room and read this amazing book.
I managed to read this book in 4 nights and proud to say this is my first book which I’ve read in many years and now my favourite!
Have you read this book? What’s your review? Any recommendations on my next book? πŸ€“

Hey guys! I’m excited to announce the official release of my book “31 DAYS AHEAD: How to Change Your Life in a Month.” It’s a 31 day guide to help you regain power and authority over your life in areas where you may feel stuck.

2018 was a year of high highs and low lows for me and what got me through was my journal of deliberate self-reflections and positive affirmations. I wanted to transform my thoughts into something tangible that could help others overcome their own battles.

As a New Year approaches, I invite you to use this book as a tool to dig deep, get out of your own way, and march ahead. Thanks for reading!
