Floor work. Just a tiny part of our practice but an essential one.
How many times do you touch the floor with your hands during your everyday life? When was the last time you crawled like an animal? How often do you lie down on the ground? Kids do it. A lot. Grown ups seldom do. Too dirty. Too childish. Too uncomfortable.
Yet so many things can happen when you start to explore the floor world. Strenghtening of the body in unusual positions, cognitive development through sequences and patterns learning, broadening of spatial perception, creativity development... Not to mention it’s also a lot of fun!
The floor world is actually so big that it’s rather floor w o r l d s, and what you can see in this video is just a teeny-tiny bit of it. Sliding, rolling, crawling... The possibilities are endless. And so are the benefits.
If you want to learn more about floor work, our classes will be soon available in Paris. More info on our website atelierschmitt.com

The ribs are one of the most fascinating parts of the anatomy for me & such an integral part of not only the skeletal, respiratory & muscular systems but importantly the immune & nervous systems too.
Breath is the facilitator of movement & feeds all of our cells & organs. I regularly see clients who use only the top third of their rib cage, not fully utilising their lungs, putting extra pressure on the upper muscles of the rib cage & contributing to neck stiffness & as a knock-on effect headaches & jaw tension. It’s easily done when we are in stressful situations.
Training our lungs to function fully gives our soft tissues (muscles, fascia & organs!) a lovely internal massage, opens up the intercostal muscles between the ribs, improves oxygen flow throughout the body & helps calm the nervous system. All good things! 💨 🤸🏼♀️💨
