Happy Alien Day!
Today is special a day for fans of the alien universe myself included. I decided to reminisce and share with you some facts about my favorite franchise.
So, Alien Day is celebrated on April, 26th. This date was not chosen randomly, the combination of numbers 4.26 is identical to the name of the planetoid LV-426, on which an alien spacecraft filled with alien eggs was discovered and then later a whole base of Earth colonists, Hadley's Hope was destroyed.
Interestingly, in addition to the index, the planetoid has a name - Acheron (in Greek mythology, it is a river in the realm of the dead), it was in fact designated in the script for the first film but in the movie this name is not mentioned.
Acheron LV-426, is one of the satellites of the planet Calpamos, which is located in the Zeta Reticuli system, which is a real double star and is located 39 light-years from Earth. In the 1960s this system devoloped a cult following amoungst American ufologists because they identified it as a possible location for aliens that abduct people.
The name of the spacecraft "Nostromo" was borrowed from the eponymous novel by Joseph Conrad. The novel also features the fictional city of Sulaco, the name given to a ship from the movie “Aliens”. In fact, the names of the spacecraft - was not the worst example of plagirism. The american science fiction writer Alfred Elton van Vogt sued the company 20th Century Fox for illegally using the plots of his stories "Black Destroyer" (1939) and "Discord in Scarlet" (1939) and even received monetary compensation from the company. In his stories we find an inter-galactic exploration ship and the monstrous, indestructible, half-intelligent creature, planting eggs in the bodies of astronauts. Sounds very familiar, doesn't it?
