Side planks are great for building obliques and balance/stability. 💪 They can also help tighten your waist-line. . . . . As you continue training, try to revisit the basics from time to time. Test your balance, agility, flexibility and coordination. These are especially important for functional fitness and your ability to perform activities of daily living. They can also make for wicked program adjustments! Instead of skipping the gym when your motivation wanes, try switching your training style. Trying something new may be all the excitement you need to get your motivation back. . . As for myself, I am training for strength 2 × wk and for cardiovascular health, balance and improved function 2 x wk. Let's hop into this Side Plank Row: How To: - Set up the cable on a lower setting. Ya know, building a strong core is more than doing hundreds of crunches or sit-ups, right?! And crunching your life away will not burn the fat either. Unfortunately, we can't spot reduce.

My friend you need a consistent modest caloric deficit, Strength Training, sprinkle in the ab work, and cardio as the side dish. The utmost importance when it comes to belly fat is managing your stress and getting your zzz's!

Anywhoodle, we can talk about belly fat another time!

Let's hop into this Side Plank Row:

How To:
- Set up the cable on a lower setting. You can also do this exercise with a resistance band.
- Get down onto the ground, facing the cable, grab the cable and scoot your way back to create good tension and a good range of motion.
- Get into the Side Plank position, make sure your shoulder is stacked over your elbow,  your head and neck should stay neutral, straighten your legs, stack your feet, squeeze your glutes, and engage your core (brace) - keep it tight.
- Keep your hips up - no sagging - or hips too high.
- Keep your torso rigid - don't lean forward or backward or rotate!

Day 4 #asanasonfire Today’s base pose is plank pose. This is my everyday go to pose and it has healed me as much as made me strong over the years. Forever grateful 🙏💕There are so many ways to heat up this pose, from raising an arm or leg, to doing it against the wall and so much more. I’ve chosen to flip plank on my side and my back and to raise the floor of my grounded foot to really heat things up🔥 Swipe👉🏼 to see reverse plank and a video of some of my fav side plank drills😅

And there are a lot of plank variations: there’s side plank and core planks and low plank (chaturanga!). Eine Variation von Vasisthasana. Mit diesem post habe ich mir heute Morgen die Zeit im Wartezimmer vertrieben 😉 Also: #vasisthasana Jeder Körper ist anders. Mir fällt das Verbiegen leicht, ich kann nichts dafür. Die Natur hat es einfach so eingerichtet, dass mein Körper flexibel ist. Und wisst ihr was? Es hat mir noch nie weitergeholfen. Ein bisschen ist es (wenn man die 30 mal weit überschritten hat 😉) eher das Gegenteil. Die Gelenke sind nicht sonderlich geschützt, wenn man so flexibel ist, die Sehnen beschweren sich, was mir immer öfter Probleme bereitet. Von Außen sieht man eine schöne Asana, innen schaut es da manchmal anders aus. Wisst ihr, was ich meine? Instagram lebt einfach von schönen Bildern, das spricht viele Menschen an. Mich auch. Aber ich vergesse dabei nie, dass niemand auf dieser Welt aufgrund ästhetischer Bilder ein sorgloses Leben hat. Und wisst ihr was? So ist das Leben. Es hat Höhen, Tiefen. Es heißt doch so schön, dass die einzige Konstante der stetige Wandel ist. Das Leben ist im Fluss. Auf und ab. Und wir sollten lernen mit zu fließen. Es ist manchmal schwer. An manchen Tagen zieht man sich besser die Decke über den Kopf und eine gute Nacht hat schon so manches vermeintlich große Problem in ein Problemchen verwandelt. Ich kenne das, jeder kennt das. Das Gute ist: wir wachsen an unseren Herausforderungen. Es macht uns zu den mitfühlenden und erfahrenen Menschen, die wir sind. Durch diese Erfahrungen fällt uns Verständnis für viele Situationen leichter. Es macht einen auch in vielen Bereichen demütiger, lässt einen das kleine Glück erkennen, das in Wirklichkeit das Große ist. Und so manches im Leben überwunden zu haben, macht einen verdammt dankbar für das, was gut läuft. Und Yoga ist ein so wunderbarer Weg, um die Balance zu finden, die wir im Leben brauchen. My practice is in the middle of changing. I once believed that it was not possible for me to hold vasisthasana. Fast forward a few years of consistent practice and it became a pose that I regularly integrated into my practice. Fast forward to a week or so ago and now it's unaccessible to me. Painting has started to make apparent just how much years of data entry has affected my body. My wrists ache when I bear weight on them. Not painting doesn't seem like a solution. I believe painting to be a side effect of getting unstuck through yoga. Not practicing yoga daily is also not a solution. The solution is to modify my practice so that the asanas are safe for my body. Which means chataranga is out of the picture, vasisthasana is gone, oh & handstands are a definite no & I'm really annoyed by it. My ego is really pissed that I have to take a step back now that I'm -finally- learning more -advanced- poses. It's even more complicated Ive realized, as I'm now worried if yin or restorative yoga will give me the same kind of workout. What the fuck? When did my weird body issues leak into my yoga practice? So you could say that yoga is doing what it's meant to. I'm reminded of the version of "The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali" translated and commentated by Sri Swami Satchidananda. Sutra #46 is "Sthira sukhamasanam" or "Asana is a steady, comfortable posture". He explains this sutra by telling a story about a weed and a tree. The tree mocks the weed for being weak. But come the rainy season, the tree is torn by it's roots and dragged into the current. The weed on the other hand bows and let's the water run over it. It is saved by it's humbleness, suppleness & capacity to adapt to a changing environment. So that's where I'm at with it. I'm realizing that I need to do something else for exercise and leave yoga as yoga. Posture Day 21: Side Bridging. I love this one as it works the lats, shoulders, obliques and even inner thighs if activated correctly without putting any strain on wrists, neck, low back etc. Good for all ages, prenatal and postnatal too. Similar to a side plank but with more stability. • • Kim is doing a fantastic job of really pressing up and out of the left shoulder and lat. Make sure you are “knitting the ribs together” and drawing them into the back body. • • Goal is to have one stick straight line from crown of head through hips through knees. Weak lateral muscles can lead to back pain 😯so it’s important to add this exercise into your repertoire to strengthen your side core.💥 There are certain spine conditions that might increase back discomfort while holding a plank. If that is the case for you, try either: 1. Adding something in between the legs 2. Side flexion on the ball 3. Keep the bottom knee on the ground 4. Weak lateral muscles can lead to back pain 😯so it’s important to add this exercise into your repertoire to strengthen your side core.💥
There are certain spine conditions that might increase back discomfort while holding a plank. If that is the case for you, try either: 
1. Adding something in between the legs
2. Side flexion on the ball
3. Keep the bottom knee on the ground
4. Discontinue the plank
