Week 5 pivot block workout 1 Volume deload this week along with switching up my stances/lift variations. Started with sumo deads, working up to an easy double at 585lbs. Then on to front squats for an easy double at 365lbs. I donated blood today and almost passed out unracking 315lbs! Scary, not gonna lift after donating again. I really didn’t think about it since I did it earlier in the day 🤷🏻‍♂️ Last was my normal incline bench programming, an easy 230x3x5 paused. All accessories are skipped this week. 40lbs gained. No excuses. But 6 years of that 10 was spent sprinting/calesthenics/ and tons of walking as transportation . Only about 2014 is when I started barbell training NOT POWERLIFTING. I was a huge advocate of JASON BLAHAS 5x5 (and introduced it to a lot of my friends, you know who you are) and a lot of high volume barbell stuff but I wasn’t the training system I’m using now . People are constantly struggling with where to put their hands on sled drags, so why not use a banded face Pull home not only to keep yourself in a great position but also put your hands to work and allowing this time to be used also to gain some shoulder strength.

Purposeful Failure. . What do you see going wrong as you watch the video? . Even for the trained eye, it is difficult to find all the areas that need work. . Going beyond what my body can ideally handle shows me the next steps to take. . The shrug of the right shoulder shows the need to isolate glenohumeral movement. . To do this, I need to activate my core which then allows for optimal scapular position. From here, the muscle can then fire correctly so I can maintain this ideal scapular position during movement. . The same opening of my right side is shown as the weight increases, which caused the left tilt of the bar on my squats. . Core first > then scap stabilization > then isolated humeral movement can happen. . Planned failure to rise up like the Dragon! . To do this, I need to activate my core which then allows for optimal scapular position.  From here, the muscle can then fire correctly so I can maintain this ideal scapular position during movement.

The same opening of my right side is shown as the weight increases, which caused the left tilt of the bar on my squats.

Core first > then scap stabilization > then isolated humeral movement can happen.

315+greens 10x2 DE. My knees feeling much better. Mentally you can see me shift on some of the reps and then correct myself. Going to wait a couple few more days and see how it feels before deciding if I’ll take my ME squats this week or swap out for block pulls and good mornings. Clearly effected my deadlift today by messing with my positioning and my inability to mentally really drive hard off both legs. Either way, Time is an enemy or a friend right now. Everyone be posting their 10 year difference pics. To be honest, I haven't physically changed all that much over the last 10 years. I've always been quite athletic and thick. A few more grey hairs, wrinkles and stretch marks perhaps. What I know HAS grown far more greatly though, has been the capacity of my mind. I've figured out my soul's wants and needs, my non-negotiables. I'm now able to fulfill them by contributing to the world and my loved ones. I'm able to keep my life filled with spontaneity. I choose to prioritise growth in my life and for myself. I know that love and connection is important to me. Knowing these things about myself enables me to dictate the direction of my future, unapologetically. On tonight's menu: Pistol #Squat Get-ups for Dessert. SAVE for Quad+Core FINISHER. - 🔥TIP: Slow& controlled (I was struggling towards my last reps), use arms, out-stretched infront to aid with balance. - OPTIONAL: Shimmy your way down to the ground& twitch like a🧟‍♂️trying to get back up.😆 - 🏋️‍♀️ 2-3 Sets ×12 Reps or Until Failure: 1. Pop down into a squat. 2. While maintaining balance, extend 1 leg straight out, while the other is bent at 90°. 3. Extended leg as parallel to the floor as you can get, descend until your 🍑hits the ground. 4. Once you're in a sitting position, use your core to Slowly recline until you're on your back. 5. Core tight, go into a situp with a leg tuck. 6. Then get back up with👣together (I criss-cross because of muscle imbalance) to a standing position. - 🤪DISCLAIMER: This is an advanced move. 🏋️‍♀️ 2-3 Sets ×12 Reps or Until Failure:
1. Pop down into a squat.
2. While maintaining balance, extend 1 leg straight out, while the other is bent at 90°.
3. Extended leg as parallel to the floor as you can get, descend until your 🍑hits the ground.
4. Once you're in a sitting position, use your core to Slowly recline until you're on your back.
5. Core tight, go into a situp with a leg tuck.
6. Then get back up with👣together (I criss-cross because of muscle imbalance) to a standing position.

It’s okay to be social at the gym... People who are social at the gym get a bad rap don’t they? There are all kinds of jokes and memes out there about “jaw day” and other workout related jabs that poke fun at those who are more social than others. However, I’m here to let you know that being social at the gym is normal, encouraged, and probably even beneficial. I’m not talking about the kind of social that results in people hogging equipment, holding court in groups for 15-20 minutes at a time, or otherwise disrupting others’ workouts. I’m talking about the kind of social that is just normal and friendly in places where people naturally congregate. A gym or workout center is one of those places. When the timing is right, don’t be afraid to approach others and introduce yourself. Better yet, ask someone a question about what they’re doing and use that as your ice breaker (everyone LOVES to be an expert, right?). Find common ground with someone. Pay them a compliment. Be nice and say good morning. You know, like normal people should do with one another. I have met some truly fantastic people on my journey - but if I hadn’t been willing to step out and try, who knows how things might be different? People have lots of different reasons for going to the gym. But if your goal is to change your body, you need to have a plan and educate yourself on the best way to do it. We plan for everything else don’t we? Vacations, time spent at work, saving to buy something, even leaving the house on the morning. All of them require a level of planning. So why would we think getting fit and healthy is any different? Why would we think we can “wing it” and see results? Furthermore, why would we assume we know what the correct plan is, especially if we don’t have experience executing one? Fitness goals come with their own body of knowledge and best practices. I’m fond of saying it’s your responsibility to educate yourself and admit what you don’t know, and seek out the right level of expertise. Once you have a baseline level of knowledge, you’ll be better off. But regardless of your experience level, having a well thought-out plan is the difference between results, and something less than that. How's your fitness plan going? Yesterday was my first day back at the gym, more than six months after injuring my shoulder. Although I learned a lot about my body during the time off, the recovery was painful, tedious, and frustrating. I am grateful to family, friends, and professional contacts who offered encouragement and advice. Sometimes when we are seeking answers we hear “yes” and sometimes we hear “no.” But by far the hardest answer we hear is “WAIT.” If you’re dealing with a fitness-related injury or setback, I want to encourage you to stay the course.
