We had a special tour through the cellar and vines (they have a beautiful and practical appearance with the Terrace system) followed by a #winetasting. The tasting room is cozy and warm with a fireplace 🔥. Perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine. This post highlights their red wines, a #tannat , which is very unusual to find so far North in in North America. This wine is complex with robust aromas of smoke and spice, hints of violet, well integrated tannins and a lengthy finish.

Starò diventando anch’io uno dei tanti degustatori snob o mi sono semplicemente lasciato condizionare da una lontana memoria adolescenziale che rimarca indelebile la mia esperienza amatoriale? Ebbene: da nostalico immaginavo un syrah leggerino e ben confezionato; da studentello diligente confidavo in un profumo meno burroso e in un’acidità più contenuta. Al pari di altre etichette da supermercato, manca di disponibilità. E non mi pare una questione di tempo: né le vicissitudini della mia biografia, tantomeno l’ipotesi di una radicale maturazione di questo prodotto (che comunque non si comporta male se abbinato a una ciotola di pop-corn caldi, davanti a una delle puntate finali della Terza Stagione di “House of Cards”). La zona di produzione (circa 1500 ettari) interessa nove comuni che si estendono tra il capoluogo della provincia e il primo entroterra del Garda: sono Villafranca, Pastrengo, Bussolengo, Sona, Sommacampagna, Valeggio sul Mincio, Peschiera del Garda, Lazise e Castelnuovo del Garda. Su quei terreni, depositati dai ghiacciai in epoche remote, vengono coltivati per tradizione vitigni a bacca bianca quali la Garganega, grande autoctono della provincia di Verona, il Trebbianello, un biotipo locale del Tocai, e la Bianca Fernanda, un clone locale del Cortese. Sono queste le uve che formano l’ossatura del Custoza, il più importante tra i vini bianchi italiani che nascono da un uvaggio, ossia da un mix di uve diverse, senza che alcuna varietà abbia una netta prevalenza sull’altra, lasciando che sia invece il terroir ad emergere La grande variabilità dei suoli collinari dell’area di produzione apporta una freschezza a tratti quasi salina.
