hey there. mobile + product engineer at reddit. the previous & precious engineer who worked on instagram.
One of my top favorites is reading books, building a framework/perspective around the knowledge learned, and then practicing the framework and consolidating the perspective via travels. I graduated from Fudan and came to America in 2007, merely wanting to work at Microsoft. I called it the computer science student's American dream. 11 years passed since that moment I landed on American soil. Each year I spent some time visiting different parts of the country and getting to see things that are different from what TV says. It feels refreshing to step out of the Silicon Valley bubble.
Life is short. Gonna enjoy it while we can. 😆 😂
Today, another one just got ✔️💯 off my todo list - I have been thinking of visiting all of the Windows desktop backgrounds in person. I believe this scenery is used in Windows 7.
Just checking out my future apartment. #joke #whatsuccesslookslike
This is what happens when I run and stretch every day. Happiness is a physical state too. 📷: @drbenzsm_phillyphoto
A perfect trip of this year. Puerto Rico is a very 😎 place to visit. I love the people, food and the culture here. Oh, did I mention the beaches?! ☕️ 🍺 🍹 🏄♀️ 🏖
A tranquil beach walk in the afternoon when going through challenges in life. Take good care of the body and mind, before talking care of other businesses.
Me visiting Canada in 2015.
Visiting the Instagram HQ in New York. It’s been almost three years since I left Instagram. Happy to see some great friends / coworkers who moved from the Bay Area to New York. Apparently Instagram is the most successful company I chose in my career and am super proud to be part of it, however more importantly, I was able to work with the best people among the best. The experience at Instagram rendered a few important life choices and made who I am today.
I made no new year resolution for 2018. I started running and training since 3 months ago, in hope to stay healthier and more fit. So here comes my first progress check in!
Apparently I got sun tanned on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is definitely my top choice among all other islands in Hawaii, because it is more naturally inspiring and less commercially developed. It is also a good time to look into the real estates there at this time before it goes up in the next five years or so.
The happy smile when you found a good bottle at a sunset beach.
Last minute flight to Hawaii for a merry Christmas. Left the chill city of San Francisco and landed on a view like this. Shot by iPhone X.
When dining out with your coworkers and your boss @nick_cald you really have to keep in mind that execution is the key. So I ordered a 30 ounce ribeye steak and made some decent progress out of it, despite of all other appetizers and drinks. #lifeofadirector #careeradvice
Me giving a talk about Silicon Valley startups, engineering culture and management, at ArchSummit conference in Beijing, hosted by InfoQ. I was deeply impressed by the quality of the conference and people asked me all kinds of difficult questions!
I’m looking for beginner level tennis buddies. Anyone?
I reminisce the time living and working in South Bay. So much sunshine and so much energy. #throwbacksunday
🏜️🐫🌞⛺️ can't really compare the California desert to this one.
