♡ Review: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms by George R.R. Martin
♡ Rating: ☆☆☆
♡ Is that gallantry I smell, or just stupidity? The two scents are much alike, as I recall.
♡ What I liked: This Martin sized novella (aka, a normal length book) follows Dunk, the hedge knight with valiant life goals, and Egg, the loud mouthed squire who latched on to Dunk and wont let go, through their various misadventures. I enjoyed following along with them on their adventures, tournies, and sticky situations and found it to be a cute and enjoyable read. The characters each brought new elements to the story and I enjoyed seeing Westeros prior to the War of Five Kings
♡ What I disliked: It felt as though a whole lot of nothing happened in this book. Yes, I know, its supposed to be a book filled with side tales, but there was very little connecting plot and when I got to the end I was very surprised that it was over - I thought my audiobook had skipped the last half of the work. Overall, it was just ehh for me
♡ Recommendation: A cute read for Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire fans, but a pass for everyone else
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If youve read this book, what did you think? If not, is there a novella or spin off that you enjoy? Or maybe one you didnt quite understand the point of?
Down with love by Kate Meader
.
I absolutely loved this romantic comedy about a wedding planner and a divorce lawyer butting heads and finding love. There is just something about an opposites attract kind of romance that I think might make it my favorite kind of romance. Usually it involves some fun banter and them realising that they actually have something in common that makes them the perfect pair. This definitely had all of that, and the banter had me laughing quite a bit and I actually highlighted quite a bit of quotes. I really loved the way this was written, I loved the humour and I loved the authors view on love and relationships.
.
”Most couples come together in a rush of passion, but not all of them learn the art of conflict resolution. We want to think we can retain the giddy joy of our wedding day and stretch it to cover all the cracks. But really, it’s when a couple learns how to fight properly—how to argue effectively and work through problems productively—well, that’s the recipe for everlasting love.”
.
I also loved the characters, both the main characters Charlie and Max, but also all of the secondary characters. I will definitely need to check out the other books in this series. I loved how Max seemed like a cynic, but was truly a romantic a heart with a love for old movies (I’m a moviebuff myself and loved how he tried to use a line from a Hitchcock movie when he first met Charlie - so cute!).
.
I think I might have discovered a new favourite romantic comedy writer and will have to check out more books from @katemeader in the future!
A Gentleman In Moscow was our July read last year, selected by Sandra.
☕
It is a well written, interesting and informative read.  We found the last two chapters, in particular, to be exciting, fast paced and page-turning.  The ending was surprising, which we didnt anticipate and added to our overall enjoyment of the novel.  A book we would definitely recommend.
☕
Synopsis:
This is the story Count Alexander Rostov who in 1922 is condemned on the grounds of being an unrepentant aristocrat and put under house arrest in the Metropol hotel, across the street from the Kremin.  The novel follows his life living in the hotel where he meets a whole host of colourful characters, including the serious child Nina and later on her daughter Sofia. ☕
It is the relationship he has with these two characters that shows a completely different side to the Count and gives him joy and a purpose.  Although he is confined to the walls of the hotel, he is enriched by the people he meets which leads to a journey of personal discovery.
And the weekend read again!
Whats your dream? by Heena Vijayvargiya
The blurb doesnt lie when it said - This is a simple tale of friendship, courage, struggles, fears, dreams and love which will take you on a rollercoaster ride!! And yes the characters and their individual stories will take you on a bumpy and an interesting ride.
.
The characters Priyanshi, Rohan, Deepali and Varun are poles apart and belong to different places and background. Where Priyanshi is a small town girl, Rohan is an oversized boy, Deepali will knock you out with her tomboy look and Varun the local rich spoil brat will take the girls over.
.
These people were destined to meet in a college and cross over each others path. Who knows, four different people and totally strangers will come out as different personalities and will form a bond known as friendship!
.
The plot was amazing, with each turning of events in all these friends lives made the story a lot more interesting.
.
The characters are pretty built well. I was actually feeling myself so engrossed in the story that it became hard for me to part with the characters. Personally I liked the character Varun, who with a rich background, portrayed humbleness and love that any girl would literally fall in love with.
.
The writing is simple and placid going along with the lightness of the story.
.
Overall, it is a light and quick read. If you have passed out of college or are in college, then it would definitely relate to you and is strongly recommended!
My ratings: 4/5
Bugün size son günlerde bana iyi gelen bir kitabın yorumuyla geldim. Budizm üzerinden yola çıkarak bir zen rahibinin ekoloji üzerindeki düşünce ve öğütlerini okuyoruz bu kitapta. Çeşitli mantra ve alıntılarla, ekoloji, çevremiz ve evren üzerine insana umut aşılayan bilgiler verilmiş. Her şey için hala geç olmadığı ve eğer kendi içimizden başlayarak etrafımızdakilerle de bir denge yakalarsak, gezegenimize de zarar vermeyi durdurabileceğimiz söylenmiş. Okuduğum zaman aslında kocaman evrende küçücük bir canlı olduğumuzu fark ettim bir kez daha. Diğer canlılarla bir bütün olduğumuzu, sürekli bir değişim ve dönüşüm içerisinde olduğumuzu, bu sebeple de yaptığımız eylemlerin diğer canlılar üzerinde çok büyük etkileri olduğunu daha iyi kavradım. Ve kitabın sevdiğim tarafıysa bu etkileri kısıtlamak için gerçekçi çözüm önerileri sunuyor olması. Hatta son sayfada dünya barış sözleşmesi niyet belgesi var kitapta. Yaptıklarınıza ve yapmaya niyetli olduklarınıza işaret koyuyorsunuz🌞
Herkesin okuması gerektiğini düşünüyorum bu kitabı çünkü bu bilince hepimiz sahip olursak ancak o zaman gerçek ve kalıcı sonuçlar elde edebileceğiz. Umarım beğenirsiniz🌸
**Book Review** This book was just what I needed after a string of thrillers and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Nina, a hotel heiress, always strives to do the right thing; the things her father would expect from her.  Dating her childhood best friend Tim and knowing that she will take the helm and run the upscale hotels her family owns in New York City are two of them.  Complicating matters are her attraction to Rafael, her new boss, and her desire to live her life on her own terms.  After he father passed away, Nina must figure out what she really wants.
This was a good escape for me from the thriller genre I typically read.  I loved how the characters were all flawed in their own way.  There was even a little more steam 🔥 than I was expecting.  Definitely a different read from The Light We Lost, and in my opinion just as good. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi 🌟🌟🌟🌟 One of my favorite romances of the year! Ocean was so precious and he and Shirin made my heart feel so many different things. I thought the beginning of the book was a little too over explanatory, but once Mafi hit her stride it was so beautiful. The commentary on islamaphobia was so painfully real. I think this is one of those books that is both important at the same time as being just plain good.
Im not usually a big fan of #yaromance but I loved Tell Me Three Things by @juliebuxbaum which was just as much about coming of age and figuring out who you are.
.
As if Jessie isnt struggling enough after the death of her mother, her father remarries and moves her from Chicago to LA. Jessie doesnt fit in with her wealthy peers , some of who seem like theyve stepped right off the set of Mean Girls.
.
When an anonymous classmate calling themselves Somebody/Nobody reaches out to her online and offers to help her navigate her new school, Jessie finds herself making new friends, hoping to meet Somebody/Nobody, and eventually falling for someone.
Un manoir perdu et quelque peu délabré, dont Lorna se souvient sans se souvenir vraiment. C’est pourtant là qu’elle veut célébrer son mariage. Lorna a l’impression d’appartenir à ce lieu.
Parallèlement au récit de Lorna, nous revenons 30 ans en arrière dans le même manoir. La famille Alton y passe l’été comme chaque année, mais en 1969, le drame survient. Accident de cheval, sentiment de culpabilité d’un enfant, solitude et chagrin du père de famille. Puis... Lorna découvrira pourquoi elle se sent si intimement liée au Manoir des lapins noirs (Black Rabbit Hall). Les secrets de famille font d’excellents romans à suspense. Un Manoir en Cornouailles n’échappe pas à la règle, s’inspire de l’atmosphère des sœurs Brontë dans un gothique à la fois contemporain et traditionnel. Les révélations sont délicieusement tordues et inattendues.
Une très agréable lecture de week-end.
Laini Taylor has such a whimsical and wonderful writing style. She truly has such a great imagination and creates these wonderful worlds that I love to get sucked into. This is just amazing and I can’t recommend this book enough if you like fantasy. The world is so intricate and so totally unique. It seriously is unlike any other world I’ve ever read about. The characters are complex, as are the problems the characters face. Even many of the good characters have their demons. Even though it deals with some pretty dark stuff and the book really makes you think, it still manages to stay relatively light and it doesn’t leave you sad like other books dealing with these topics might. Highly recommend to YA fantasy lovers! #strangethedreaner #lainitaylor #bookreview
5/5 Laini Taylor has such a whimsical and wonderful writing style. She truly has such a great imagination and creates these wonderful worlds that I love to get sucked into. This is just amazing and I can’t recommend this book enough if you like fantasy. The world is so intricate and so totally unique. It seriously is unlike any other world I’ve ever read about. The characters are complex, as are the problems the characters face. Even many of the good characters have their demons. Even though it deals with some pretty dark stuff and the book really makes you think, it still manages to stay relatively light and it doesn’t leave you sad like other books dealing with these topics might. Highly recommend to YA fantasy lovers! #strangethedreaner #lainitaylor #bookreview
There are things they didn’t know about me. Things they could never know about me. But they still knew me better than anyone else in the world. This is how I comfort myself. •
This is my May @bookofthemonth pick. It took me longer than I wanted to to finish this book. It was good, but I didn’t think it was great. I kind of wanted more. There were things that annoyed me about Violet and Stella’s characters. I understand that Stella’s family took Violet in but they’re a family of assholes and Stella was a terrible friend. If I was Violet I would have left that friendship faster than she did. •
⁉️Question⁉️ If you read “Necessary People” what was your opinion of this book?
Jane, be still; dont struggle so like a wild, frantic bird, that is rending its own plumage in its desperation.
I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being, with an independent will; which I now exert to leave you.
Book Babes! 🌺🌼🌺🌞🌸We’re here with a review of our last book in the summer collection, The Vacationers. Real talk. We picked this book because of all the raving reviews and fun setting. I read along with y’all for this one. Franny and Jim Post are going on their 35th wedding anniversary in New York. While dealing with infidelity we wonder if this will be their last. They have 2 kids Bobby and Sylvia. Bobby is a 28 year old realtor in Miami & is dating Carmen, a 40 year old fitness coach. Sylvia is 18 and has just graduated and can’t wait to get away and reinvent herself at college. We get to spend 14 days with them on their family vacation to Mallorca, Spain. As you read many secrets of infidelity, financial issues, and late night parties start to come out. I loved the setting of this book but I found myself bored throughout most of the first half. 😕 I felt the first part of their vacation was very repetitive and uneventful.  Everyone was just tiptoeing around each other and then we read about how they feel about it . Overall this just wasn’t my cup of tea. Just being real y’all! If you’ve read this book let us know what you thought! 🤗🐠🏖🌊🌺 xoxo bookclub babe , Chandler
“Wisdom cannot be imparted. Wisdom that a wise man attempts to impart always sounds like foolishness to someone else ... Knowledge can be communicated, but not wisdom. One can find it, live it, do wonders through it, but one cannot communicate and teach it.”
— Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha
I picked this up after my best friend gave the name to his first born a couple of months back. A beautiful name for a beautiful little boy. As he grows up he will no doubt read the tale of Herman Hesse’s eponymous hero, and he will find in it a gentle and timeless wisdom. I can only hope his journey to fulfilment is more straightforward than the myriad wrong turns taken by his namesake, but if he reads carefully, he will see its central musing, which is that he must shape his own feelings and his own thoughts, according to all he sees and hears, and never follow too closely any doctrine or ideology. I wish him all the luck in the world with that.
¿Alguna vez escuchaste hablar de Jodan Belfort, el lobo de Wall Street? Jordan es un ex corredor de bolsa, que como muestran en la película “El Lobo de Wall Street” se hizo multimillonario vendiendo acciones… de una forma… digamos… poco alineada con la ley.
•
Más allá de su historia personal Jordan ha sido un gran orador motivaciones y en este ultimo libro te enseña las técnicas que le ha enseñado a millones para poder cerrar mas ventas.
•
Mezclando el método que descubrió de “la línea recta”, lenguaje corporal y anécdotas de su vida personal en Stratton Oakmont, su nuevo libro te va a dar herramientas que vas a poder aplicar en tu vida, mas allá de que trabajes o no en ventas.
•
Un libro increíble, sumamente recomendable, porque como dice Jordan siempre estamos vendiendo algo, un producto, una idea o incluso se vende uno mismo hacia un posible empleador o empleado. Súper fácil de leer y súper aplicable!
Gracias @valentin.pacelli por sugerirme el libro!
Título: Um dia em dezembro
Autora: Josie Silver
Editora: Editorial Planeta
N.° de páginas: 380
RESENHA: Vi a publicidade da editora a este livro, lançado em outubro de 2018. A capa prendeu a minha atenção (tudo o que me lembra Londres, capta-me a atenção), li a sinopse e pareceu-me um daqueles romances cor-de-rosa, bastante clichê. E há momentos na vida que tudo o que uma rapariga precisa é disso! 😉 💖
Comprei o livro em novembro mas apenas tive tempo de o começar a ler no final de dezembro, terminando a leitura nos primeiros dias de 2019.
O livro conta a história de Laurie, uma rapariga que não acredita no amor à primeira vista e que, num dia de dezembro, pela janela de um autocarro, em Londres, vê um homem que lhe faz bater o coração mais depressa, os olhares encontram-se, a magia acontece mas... o autocarro afasta-se!
Laurie confidencia este episódio à sua melhor amiga, Sarah, com quem partilha casa. Segue um ano passafo à procurar do homem da paragem, mas sem sucesso.
No Natal, Laurie e Sarah organizam uma festa e Sarah aproveita para apresentar o seu namorado à amiga. Chama-se Jack e é o rapaz que Laurie viu do autocarro.
A partir de então, toda a narrativa se desenrola ao longo de 10 anos, com várias peripécias, muitos segredos ocultos, alguns desgostos, oportunidades perdidas, caminhos errados e vidas desfeitas.
Este romance, para mim, cumpriu o prometido: foi uma história de amor inesquecível! De clichê só mesmo o triângulo amoroso gerado. Tratou-se de uma história comovente, ao mesmo tempo realista, em que facilmente nos colocamos na pele das várias personagens.
A narrativa vai-se desenvolvendo através dos pontos de vista de Laurie, Sarah e Jack, alternando de forma harmoniosa e permitindo que a história se desenrole no ritmo certo.
É um livro que nos prende da primeira à última página, pois só queremos ver como irá terminar toda esta confusão ditada pelo destino, que, por vezes, toma caminhos inexplicáveis em relação ao amor e à felicidade.
Recomendo a todos aqueles que apreciam uma boa história de amor e de amizade, cheia de dilemas e decisões difíceis. 📚😍😊 #booklover #lovestory #leituras2019 #romanceisabonusbook #resenha #book #bookreview
Всем отличного воскресного вечера🤗
Есть ли у вас домашние животные?А какие?🐾🐾
У меня вот живет лысая кошка. Ее появление в моем доме крайне нелогично,так как я абсолютная собачница и на тот момент в моей жизни присутствовали два чудесных старых мопса.Но мироздание решило по- своему,и несмотря на аллергию и отсутствие опыта содержания кошек, пять лет назад в моей жизни появилась Диана.Теперь это взрослая коша,воспитанная двумя собаками, с отвратительным характером, но милыми привычками🐈.
Вообще я всю жизнь тащу домой животных,начиная от хомяков и заканчивая птенцом сороки и ужиком(последнего мама до сих пор вспоминает с ужасом).
И вот я решила собрать небольшую подборочку о писателях и их необычных питомцах:
😺Чарльз Диккенс.
Современники вспоминали, что Диккенс везде появлялся с любимым компаньоном – вороном по имени Грип. Грип умел разговаривать, однако в действительности это был не один, а три разных ворона с одинаковым именем.Кстати считается,что именно Грип стал прототипом для знаменитого стихотворения Алана По Ворон.
😻Эрнест Хемингуэй
Писатель и его четвертая жена обожали кошек,которые были абсолютными хозяевами в их доме.И даже в настоящий момент в доме-музее Хемингуэя живет более 60 кошек, все они – потомки любимцев писателя.
😼Данте Габриэль Россетти
Английский поэт и художник-прерафаэлит Данте Габриэль Россетти дома содержал настоящий зоопарк. Однако жемчужиной этого зоопарка и любимцем Россетти был вомбат Топ. Ожидая прибытия животного по морю, Россетти писал: «Может ли быть мир на земле, пока я не получу своего вомбата?».
😽Шарль Пьер Бодлер
Французский символист Шарль Бодлер, который имел имидж мрачного и эпатажного поэта, решил, что лучшее домашнее животное – это тарантул. Своего тарантула Бодлер держал в банке на подоконнике, чтобы тот мог видеть улицу.
😹Фланнери О’Коннор
Американская писательница Фланнери О’Коннор, автор книги, «Мудрая кровь», держала в своем загородном доме не обычных кошек или собак, а… павлинов. Современники вспоминают, что в усадьбе писательницы в Милледжвилле свободно гуляли около ста павлинов.
Вот такая небольшая подборка на сегодня,надеюсь вам было интересно.
