Let's talk about the elephant in the room.
Everyone wants to know "Why don't you keep Elly?" Or "I dont understand how you could give her up" and even "But shes attached to you guys..." Mom and I got into rescue to save as many lives as we possibly can. Thats what working in rescue is all about! There are millions of wonderful humans out there who can adopt a dog and give it a wonderful life. Unfortunately there are way more millions of homeless animals. Adopting a dog for us means saving only one more life. For those of you that have been following my rescue since long before IG you've seen lots of animals come and go from our house. Remember Stella? Stella was at Animal Control, severely emaciated and running out of time. If mom and I had our hands full, we wouldn't have been able to rescue Stella. And she went on to live a beautiful sunny life in Florida with a full belly every night. Or Arnold! Arnold was found in the country by a nice woman who's roommate was not so nice and threatened to shoot the pup if he wasnt gone by the time he got home from work. We were the only foster nearby that morning and when mom woke up to that email, she rolled over, looked at the family and said, "wanna save a puppy?". We wouldn't have been able to do that if we had adopted our other dogs.
Would someone else have saved them? Maybe.... or maybe not. Imagine that?
Stella, Roxie, Duke, Debra, Dexter, Gerry, Scooter, Penny, Arnold, Elly. And counting.
Rescue is hard on us animals. Yes. It's very hard to change homes and not understand why. Sometimes an adopted animal doesnt make it in the new home, it does happen, but most of us are resilient. When an animal is fostered by a responsible human, matched appropriately through a responsible rescue, the result truly is a saved life. And that is priceless!
Plus. My family has enough animals for now 😆
