Made it! Took the Grotto Trail cause it's a shorter hike to the top, but almost turned back a few times cause it's all uphill and really steep in some parts. This one's a thigh burner for sure!

The Top 3 Fitness Mistakes I See People Making:

1) No specific goal. I run into people constantly who want to discuss fitness, and one of the very first questions I ask is, "What's your goal?" The responses I get are usually, "To get healthy", "To tone up" or "To burn some lower belly fat", but those goals are far too ambiguous and immeasurable. People hate using the scale, but it's the best objective measurement of whether or not you're building muscle OR burning fat. Use it. 🎯
.
2) Cardio is their primary focus. Cardio is only one component of fitness, and in my opinion, weight training is FAR more important. Why? Because building and/or retaining muscle mass has a WAY BIGGER long-term compounded benefit. Remember, the person with more muscle mass will always burn more calories than the person with less, so building and retaining muscle mass should always remain your top priority. 👌

3) Their focus is in the wrong place. So many of us want to win the game overnight. We want to feel confident and transform our body NOW, but that's not how it works. There is no quick fix. Period. Transformation takes time and consistency, and your focus needs to remain on the LEARNING and MASTERY of the process. Never forget that the results are the last part to show up, and they are a BY-PRODUCT of something far deeper. 🔥

1) Before working with me, they were usually trying to burn fat and build muscle simultaneously. For a natural athlete, this is a losing game. By definition, there always needs to be ONE priority. If you try to chase two rabbits, you'll catch neither and wonder why you're not motivated. 🐰

2) Before working with me, they usually had no sustainable system to track progress. They'd jump on the scale here and there, but they weren't graphing their weight and caloric intake over time. When we track, it keeps us on track, and it has to be daily. It's an apple a day, not 7 apples on Sunday. 🍎

3) Before working with me, they weren't usually aware of how much their associations were holding them back. One of the first exercises I do is have them write out their "Top 10 Associations" and rate them from 0 to 10 on two things. One, their dedication to their fitness goals; and two, their current physique. This quickly helps them realize why they feel so alone and unmotivated. 🤼‍♀️

1) The people who go there. I've been to so many gyms, and I can tell you from experience that there's nothing more important than this. Getting into a gym with motivated athletes who take fitness seriously WILL rub off on you. It will be uncomfortable at first, but it's like the fish in the tiny fish bowl. It can only grow in proportion to the size of the bowl. If you want to grow, put yourself into a bigger bowl. 🙌

2) Proximity to your bed. How close is your gym to where you call home? Why? Because the amount of will power it will take to get up and go is in direct proportion to how much time and energy you must expend to get there. Humans are opportunistic hunters, so choose a gym close by to minimize the resistance to going and to ensure consistency. 🎯

3) Hours of operation. Is your gym 24/7? If not, are the hours good? Life's hectic, and sometimes it's difficult to fit a gym session in at normal hours. And here's the thing, your mind will come up with ANY excuse not to go when you don't feel like it, and the gym not being open shouldn't be one of them. 🔥

1) Focus. In today's insanely noisy, technology-driven world, we are quite literally losing our ability to focus, which is crushing your ability to stay cognitively sharp and productive. When you weight train, your ability to focus on only ONE THING at a time until it's complete without distraction is improving. 🎯

2) No pain, no gain. We know this in weight training. If the set was easy, then it's time to increase the weight, but what about in life? Sometimes we forget that this is how the human condition is set up. No challenge, no growth: Mentally, Emotionally and Spiritually as well, and weight training will help you build the habit of running toward the fire, and not from it, which will make all the difference. 🙌

3) Fear no judgement. Weight training requires us to consistently get outside of our comfort zone. To keep improving, you have no choice but to try new exercises you suck at, increase the weight of your lifts and FAIL FORWARD consistently. Will you be judged and observed by others constantly? Yes. Should you let it stop you? No. Remember, there will always be some who choose to judge others who are fighting the flames than to face the fire themselves. 🔥

I try to do this exercise or a variation of it every pull workout (twice per week). 💪

This is a medium grip lat pulldown, but you can also do close grip or wide grip depending on which part of the back you want to target. 🎯

This exercise is also simulating a pull up, so if you're strong enough, you can choose to do those too, and the same techniques apply. 👌

If you haven't already incorporated lat pulldowns into your workout regiment, I highly recommend it. 🔥
