“You don’t need to lose weight, so there’s nothing we can advise you do.  Take the birth control pill and come back and see us when you want to get pregnant.” Heard this before?  If so, you’re one of the millions of frustrated women with ‘Lean PCOS’ 
But the above statement is completely inaccurate.  There is so much that you can do to help your PCOS and the exact same principle applies as women who gain weight with PCOS- find the root cause of why your hormones are out of balance. 
So this is exactly what I delve into on today’s podcast.

Here are some of the things we cover in this episode: 👉30% of women with PCOS are categorised as ‘lean PCOS’ 👉’Lean PCOS’ is an (almost) useless categorisation- it doesn’t tell us anything about what’s driving your PCOS. 👉I often see  Hypothalamic Amenorrhea being mis-diagonosed as Lean PCOS (these are completely different conditions). 👉Non- congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia is another big PCOS ‘mimicker’
👉Weight gain is just one symptom of the PCOS ‘root causes’ i.e. insulin
👉Being lean doesn’t mean that your insulin is working perfectly- many women with ‘lean PCOS’ also have problems with their insulin
👉High stress hormones or adrenals is one of the most common drivers of ‘Lean’ PCOS
👉High stress hormones isn’t just caused by too much work- it can also be over exercising, infections etc. 👉Environmental toxins are another common driver of ‘Lean PCOS’

Training tip: there are two functions of the bicep. The first is flexing the elbow joint and the second is supinating your forearm.
•
If you hold out hand and point all your fingers forward, supination means rotating your palm to face up towards the sky. Pronating means rotating your palm to face the ground.
•
It's important to supinate your hand as much as you can at the top of a dumbbell curl. This way you are overloading both functions of the biceps and this is how you can start training them more effectively.

You have be very careful when training shoulders. I talked about good form before. While it certainly and undoubtedly is important on all exercises, it is ESPECIALLY important when doing shoulder exercises.
•
The shoulder is a very complicated joint. Injuries in the shoulder can be very debilitating and takes longer to recover from, and in some rare cases impossible to do so. So it is very important to learn the form on any shoulder movement and have FULL CONTROL of the weight in every inch of the range of motion.
•
The shoulder even works with the chest to push the weight forward, that's why injured shoulders cause your bench press to become weaker.
•
So keep in mind that you should warm up your shoulders properly before ANY upper body training day. Even when you hit chest or back or arms, warm up your shoulders still.

A tip for training chest: when doing any kind of barbell chest exercise, push your hands inside while holding onto the bar and try to make them touch.

This will direct the unnecessary tension away from the front delts and triceps and focus the majority of it on the chest muscles. This will improve what's called a mind-to-muscle connection so you are able to recruit more chest muscle fibers.

Try this out the next time you train chest. The weight you use will take a drop because this makes the exercise harder. Don't even bother trying to tell me how intense it will be because I'm pretty sure I will hear you screaming all the way to my room. But no pressure 😁.
