Across the United States Armed Forces, military family medicine specialists serve a diverse population of patients who come from different backgrounds and bring with them varying life experiences.

Whereas some may be leaving home for the first time, others may be struggling with being geographically separated from their loved ones, creating an interesting dynamic for the family physician.

As our #FamilyDocFocus, Lt. Col. Kevin Kelly, M.D., M.B.A., explains, "I think soldiers and their families deserve the best health care, and so I am driven to improve our military health care system". Join us in thanking Colonel Kelly for his service and devotion in caring for families in the line of duty. *

I spent 11 years active duty in the Army as a Military Police officer. I also served on special duty for 6 out of the 11 years with military bands singing all over the world. I got out in 2009, to take care of my children and was soon after diagnosed with PTSD from MST that occurred in Korea in 1999. My assailant harrassed me for years. He is currently in prison for unrelated charges.

I went to school and raised my children while I sought treatment, and was able to obtain my Associate's degree and eventually my barber licenese and 2 years ago I completed my Bachelor's degree in Multimedia Journalism.

I have worked with radio, television, and the music industry, trying to promote myself as an artist, but my responsibility is always to my children. I currently am a substitute teacher, a barber, work at a restaurant, and use my music career to support our family. I am married and my husband just experienced a very big career change, which makes it difficult to promote my music career. I have a new album and am signed to a label in Nashville and have a full band, which I book, promote and manage on my own.

My children are both athletes and very creative. We all work hard. Our goal is to have a house of our own because we have lived in a 2 bedroom apartment for several years while I completed my education and recorded my first album.
Music is my savior, and what brought me back to life. It is the one thing that never gave up on me, and always gave me confidence.
Music is also how I began to reach other victims of sexual trauma. I am now able to speak about it without shame in front of large groups.

Here you go.

June 17th 1775: The Battle of Bunker Hill begins. Since April of that year, the colonists involved in defending against the British Army had pushed the British back to Boston and then surrounded almost the entire land mass around the city. There was a stalemate in Boston. The British Army was looking to set up a foothold in Charlestown via the aid of the Royal Navy, considering the militias hadn't bothered to use the land. The plan was the have the Royal Navy guide the movement of troops onto the Charlestown peninsula. On June 13th the militiamen were informed of these plans, and thus Colonel William Prescott decided to move his minutemen to the hills in Charlestown known as Bunker and Breeds. The colonists had smuggled arms and a cannon under the cover of night and by the morning of the battle they had sturdy defenses in place. The British forces were under the command of General Thomas Gage, who was the military governor of Boston. The afternoon of June 17th the battle began as the British arrived in Charlestown and bombarded the area with mortar fire from their ships in the waters. General William Howe who would later succeed Gage, moved his troops up Breeds Hill. William Prescott ordered his men not to fire "until you see the whites of their eyes," this was to inflict massive damages to the British lines. This tactic worked as the first volley of fire stunted the British advance up the hill. It was not until the third advance that the British could push the Americans back, as the militiamen ran out of gun powder. Freed Slave Salem Poor payed a pivotal role in the battle by killing British Royal Marine Corps Major John Pitcairn, who was among to the forces dispatched to Lexington and Concord in April. The battle saw a Pyrrhic victory for the British as they lost many men, yet gained nothing. General Howe earlier had order the Navy to firebomb the city and burn it down, so there was really nothing left there. The British Army did not stay in Boston too much longer as the Americans were later joined by General George Washington in the days following the battle and they eventually drove the British out of the city in March 1776.

In many ways, my grandparents' house was like a museum. Tons of old stuff that we were never allowed to touch. This Stereoscope was in their basement along with many of their various souvenirs from around the world. Again, as kids we were never allowed to use it or look at the photos, but when my grandfather passed (years ago) and my grandmother recently sold their house, some of this stuff came into my guardianship. The pictures that caught my eye were these from the Spanish American war, all from 1900 (plus a Confederate officer). There's the USS Brooklyn, soldiers on "the firing line at dead man's bend, Imus Rd. Philippines," and reinforcements going to the front. Surprisingly, the 3-d quality of these are pretty good and very sharp. Checking out the gear and the Krags is also pretty cool. Maybe some of these would be good colorization candidates.

Happy Birthday @ usarmy! Happy #FlagDay! Happy Birthday to the 45th President of the United States @ realdonaldtrump! .

Thank you to all who serve including my family. Thank you to all who fight to keep us free and prosperous. Thank God for our great country America. .

I’ve always had utmost respect and admiration for America, for our true leaders and for the Office of the Presidency. This appreciation was greatly deepened during my visit to Washington, D.C. in June, 2002. .

I was welcomed to the stage at Georgetown University by my friend, retired Lieutenant Colonel Sharief Fahmy, then Mission Director of Air Force One and the F-16 Fleet that guards the President of the United States during all flights. He was also Senior Aide to then President George W. Bush and later Director of the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi. .

That day I spoke before hundreds of leaders, US Senators, Representatives, President George W. Bush's Cabinet Members and many of America's best leaders. I enjoyed leading our project and presenting findings on Post 9-11 Security Procedures to this group at age 17. .

It was also a pleasure and great honor to have meetings with US Senators Gordon Smith (R-OR) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) at their Washington, D.C. offices and taking guided tours of the White House and Oval Office, National Security Agency Headquarters and historic monuments in our immaculate Capitol City. .

That was such an amazing year. Six months prior, I was awarded a Congressional Nomination to attend the US Air Force Academy by Representative Darlene Hooley. .

I'm beyond grateful to America and the Members of Congress that have been so supportive of me over the years. Thank you all so much and thanks to @ VP Mike Pence for posting such magnificent photos 2 to 4 to share as I have. .
